Kilimanjaro ascent, 6–nights/7–days

Day 1: Machame Huts Camp

A short drive brings us to the Machame Trailhead (about 1,640 m above sea level). After the climbers and crew have checked in with the park rangers, we hike through the mountain forests, wind our way through the mossy jungle and make our way to MachameHütten Camp.

Walking time: 5-7 hours

Overnight altitude: approx. 2,450 m above sea level

Day 2: Shira Plateau

After breakfast our hike continues through the forest. We will take our time and enjoy the scenery as we move through the moorlands we will be treated to a spectacular view of Kibo peak.

Walking time: 4-6 hours

Overnight altitude: approx. 3,810 m above sea level

Day 3: Barranco Camp

Today is going to be a long day. We will take an acclimatization hike to the Lava Tower (about 4,630 m above sea level) and have lunch beforedescending into the Barranco Valley. For those who have energy, and if time and weather permit, there is the possibility to climb the lava tower yourself.

Walking time: 6-8 hours

Overnight altitude: approx. 3,975 m above sea level

Tag 4: Karanga Camp

Today, you continue to acclimatize and let your body get used to these higher altitudes to prepare for your upcoming summit push. You’ll climb the steep Barranco wall, then walk up and down several ridges and valleys before reaching Karanga Camp.

Walking time: 4-5 hours

Overnight altitude: approx. 3,995 m above sea level

Tag 5: Barafu Camp

Today you continue your tour along the ridge and reach your last camp before the summit. You’ll have dinner early, sleep for a few hours, and then get up around 11:00pm to begin the summit climb.

Hiking: 3-4 hours

Overnight altitude: approx. 4,673 m above sea level

Day 6: Summit and Mweka Camp

Equipped with headlamps, your hike begins around midnight. Slowly we approach Stella Point and the goal of your ascent. Due to the altitude, you walk very slowly and need to dress warmly for the cold. After celebrating with photos at the summit, we descend to Mweka camp.

Hiking: 6-7 hours ascent to the summit, then 6-9 hours descent

Summit: 5,895 m a.s.l.

Overnight altitude: approx. 3,200 m above sea level

Day 7: Mweka Park Gate (approx. 1,524 m above sea level) to Arusha

We make the last descent through the rainforest to Mweka Gate. Here we will have lunch and say goodbye to our mountain crew before leaving Kilimanjaro National Park. You will return to Arusha where a hot shower and a festive dinner await you
