As a volunteer in the Tanzanian bush

For wildlife and nature conservation enthusiasts, UNITED TANSANIA e.V. (https://utev98.wixsitze.com/utev) offers a unique holiday and nature experience in the African bush. During your stay of at least 1 week – where 4 weeks would be optimal – you will participate in the daily work of the field research team for hyena conservation. With your meaningful contribution, you help the local communities to live in harmony with their wildlife in the immediate vicinity of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, the Serengeti and the Tarangire National Park.

You will sleep in a safari tented camp in the bush at Lake Eyasi under the Tanzanian sky while hyena calls can be heard throughout the night, and exotic birds greet you at sunrise This is sure to be  an unique and unforgettable experience,  that will leave you with a sense of accomplishment and adventure.  This experience would be ideal for: lovers of pristine nature, hyena enthusiasts, bird watchers.

The NGO team consists of the founder and project manager, a veterinarian, field research assistants, trekkers, social media managers, a camp manager and driver, the chef for the kitchen, the cleaning and laundry service, gardeners and night watchmen. 

At the Bush Camp you can expect:

What you will do with us:

You will join the field research team in their daily activities to learn more about the conflict between humans and hyenas and to understand its impact on hyena conservation. These include bush walks with trekkers from the Datoga tribe in search of hyena caves and wildlife tracks. You will set up wildlife cameras, maintain them and help with the photo identification of individual hyenas based on their spot pattern. You will become familiar with other monitoring techniques, and learn how to take GPS tracks and transfer them to mapping systems as you search for hyena tracks in the bush.
