Olduvai Gorge

For friends of archaeology, Tanzania has the Olduvai Gorge, another UNESCO World Heritage Site, as a safari highlight. The steep gorge is located in the Great Rift Valley, between the Ngorongoro Crater and the Serengeti National Park. It is about 48 kilometers long almost 90 meters deep. On your way to the Serengeti National Park, the monument that marks the turnoff to the gorge is not to be missed. A museum at the edge of the gorge presents fossil remains of human ancestors and the animal world of that time and informs about the geological formation of the gorge.
